OUR MONTREAL WORKSHOP

Each and every bag is thought of, designed, conceived and made in our workshops of MONTREAL CANADA. We want to offer pieces that reflect the renewed vitality of Montreal’s design while honouring the manufacturing past of the city we love so dearly.

Reducing at the maximum the environmental impacts of our choices is at the heart of the LOWELL project. Just like trying to have the best social impacts as possible for our community.

THE TANNERY

LOWELL is very proud to use leathers entirely made in the USA. We worked with a great American tannery to develop the best leathers we could, with the less socially and environmentally negative impacts as possible.

The tannery we work with has acquired generations of experience and skilled craftsmanship. They use hides from small farms all over the United States and Canada. The hides are tanned within state of the art tanneries by the international organization, the Leather Working Group (LWG), which guarantees that processes and chemicals used in the tanning process are following all government and local ecological and social standards.

The retanning made in their facility uses only vegetable and animal oils from renewable sources. They avoid the use of oils from marine species as well as any others that are non-sustainable. The finishing products are made with natural dyestuffs, carnauba wax and natural oils. They refrain from using any surfactants in the process, as they are pioneers in the USA with using probiotic good bacteria for emulsifying purposes. They also run a waste water treatment plant in their facility to treat and purify their residual
waters onsite.
